Why I Hate the Color Purple

Disclaimer: If you adore the color purple, please don’t hate me for hating it. I still love you so you should still love me, no? 😉 😉 😀 😀

As far back as I can remember, I’ve had a strange aversion to the color purple. And by “aversion” I mean “repulsion.” The color, in some shades, can make me physically ill, while in others, is less abhorrent. This is one of the first things you learn about me when we become friends. Because it truly affects my life. And I really can’t stand purple.

For years, I had no idea why I loathed the color so much.

Then I watched Pocahontas for the fifty millionth time (okay, so that’s a slight exaggeration).

You know how every child has a movie they incessantly watch over and over again until your eyeballs and ears are bleeding because you just cannot stand to watch it once more? Pocahontas was that film for me.

And everything evil in that movie is coated in, you guessed it, the color purple.

Seriously. I’m not kidding.

Are you seeing what I’m seeing?

PURPLE IS PURE EVIL. PURPLE IS PURE EVIL. PURPLE IS PURE EVIL.

This is what I was brainwashed to believe as a child. Pocahontas was my childhood hero, so of course I came to despise whatever stood against her. In this case, it was a purple clad mad man.

So now you know why I hate purple, some shades more than others.

I will say that understanding the why behind my aversion has made the horrors of it lessen. I now find purple tolerable, though I still avoid it whenever possible.

Do you have any strange aversions to things because of childhood influences? (pleasedontletmebetheonlyone)
